Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

The Government introduced the Pupil Premium Grant in April 2011. This grant, which is additional to the main Academy funding, is seen by Government as the best way to address the national inequalities between students eligible for free school meals (FSM), Looked After Children (LAC), service children and other students. The aim is to ensure that the funding reaches the students who need it most.

The Pupil Premium sum is clearly identified budget within the whole school funding. The school decides how Pupil Premium is spent as it is best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for each of the individual students eligible for the funding within the school.

Our Vision

At Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre, we believe every student, regardless of background or challenge, deserves the opportunity to succeed. Guided by our HEART values:

· Honesty : We act with integrity and transparency in all we do.

· Excellence: We strive for the highest standards in teaching and learning.

· Accountability : We take responsibility for outcomes and continuous improvement.

· Respect : We value every individual and celebrate diversity.

· Teamwork : We work together as a whole school community to support every learner.

Our goal is that all students make strong progress, achieve high attainment across a broad and balanced curriculum, and develop the skills, knowledge, and aspirations to thrive in adult life.

What it Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help schools improve education outcomes for disadvantaged students. This includes those eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), looked-after children, and children from service families.

Our Strategy

Our approach focuses on:

· High-quality teaching – proven to have the greatest impact on closing the attainment gap.

· Targeted academic support – interventions in English, Maths, and reading for those below age-related expectations.

· Wider strategies – improving attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, and access to enrichment opportunities.

We also consider the needs of vulnerable students, such as those with high levels of ACEs, young carers, or social worker involvement, even if they do not have a Pupil Premium indicator.

How We Measure Impact

We track:

· Academic progress and attainment

· Attendance and punctuality

· Reading levels

· Behaviour and engagement

· Participation in extra-curricular activities

· Successful post-16 destinations

Funding and Transparency

Each year, we publish:

· Our total Pupil Premium allocation
