Following the publication of this year’s GCSE examination results, the staff and governors of Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre would like to say huge congratulations to our Year 11 students.

Despite the challenges of the last couple of years results have continued to improve. We are incredibly proud of the achievements of all our students, despite all the uncertainty and circumstances we have found ourselves in. We continually ‘Strive for Excellence’ ensuring each student is able to ‘be the best they can be’ no matter what their starting point when they join us. This mantra, along with our support and guidance, has served our students well.

Kirsty Gordelier (Assistant Principal Achievement and Progression) commented, ‘We are delighted to see the hard work our young people have put in recognised in these excellent results. The skills and work ethic that they have developed with us will no doubt contribute to their continued success when we see them again in September to continue their studies’.

Students achieving a Grade 5 or above in both English and Maths, has increased from 2019 and we have over 30 Grade 9s throughout our Year 11s. Special mention should be made of the incredible results in Fine Art, Graphics and 3D Studies. 69% of all grades were passing grades (Grades 9-4).

Note should also be made of Ruth and Molly who attained multiple Grade 9s. Really well done!

We wish all our students well as they strive forward in this ever-changing world and offer them any help they need, as well as ask them to stay in touch to help those who follow them in the coming years.

Principal Dawn Burke said: ‘It has been a brief but amazing pleasure working with the Year 11s. They should be proud of the way they have pulled together to support each other, as well as the work they have clearly put in over these last two years. I am looking forward to get to know the majority of them better as so many of our young people return to us for their Sixth Form studies. Huge thanks too, to all the staff and families in our community that have supported these students along the way. Well done, class of 2022!’

We are happy to accept late applications for September 2022 so if you require further information about joining our Sixth Form or have any general questions please telephone 01531 820550, email or visit
