The Careers Department at Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre is committed to providing unbiased advice to all members of School.
Careers takes very much a student centred approach and is an integral part of our well established House system.
A Careers Information Centre has been established in the school’s main Library and is full of up to date Careers resources. Students are advised to make use of this valuable resource together with the computer software programs that are available on the school computer network and other internet based resources that we subscribe to.
At KS3 students begin to look at the world of work through “The Skills Cube” in year 7 and “The Real Game” in year 8.
The main thrust in Year 10 is preparing students for their week’s Work Experience in the Summer Term.
Year 11 focuses on the transition to post 16 education training and employment, preparing students for interviews, giving support and guidance in filling out application forms and compiling CVs. All students receive individual careers interviews with a member of the 6th form team. A Record of Achievement, documenting their successes and achievements during their time at Newent, is also completed.
In the Sixth Form we have a Careers element to our PSHE programme with visiting speakers from colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers and industry to advise on post 18 options.
All students have the opportunity to request a Careers interview with our external Prospects advisor.
